Tirupati International Airport (IATA: TIR; ICAO: VOTP), also known as Renigunta Airport, serves Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. Located in Renigunta, just 16 km from the city centre and about 39 km from Tirumala’s Venkateswara Temple, it’s a vital entry point for pilgrims and tourists alike. Commissioned in 1971 and upgraded to international status in June 2017, the airport now features a modern integrated "Garuda" terminal, capable of handling 500 domestic and 200 international passengers simultaneously. The runway (08/26) is 3,810 m long—making it one of the longest operated by AAI.
The airport's Garuda terminal includes 18 check-in counters and 3 self-check-in kiosks to facilitate smooth departures. While Air India indicates there are no fixed counters for their operations at TIR, general check-in follows standard airport protocols. Fast-track and assistance services are available via specialized providers like Jodogo, offering perks including escort to counters and priority processing.
Passengers can use airline-specific baggage services, and the airport features amenities such as trolleys, porter assistance, baggage wrapping, and a lost-and-found office. Special complimentary baggage handling is also provided for senior citizens, and the environment is wheelchair-friendly.
Standard security screening applies: all passengers and luggage must pass through X-ray and security checks. Boarding passes and identity documents should be ready while queuing. Fast-track security can be availed via VIP/assistance services. Additionally, VIP/VVIP lounges are available for eligible travelers.
Following its elevation to international status in 2017, TIR now handles limited international flights, especially from the Middle East (e.g., Dubai, Doha) with plans for expansion underway. The Garuda terminal includes immigration and customs facilities with dedicated counters. Airport services support foreign travelers with currency exchange, tourism counters, and duty-free shopping.
